What happens when you treat health care as a right

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Posted by Mike

Something to think about when you hear Barack Obama and others say health care is a right. From the Canadian Calgary Herald:

For the country as a whole, the median wait between being referred to a specialist and receiving treatment fell to 17.3 weeks in 2008 from 18.3 weeks last year - the longest delay recorded since the think-tank began studying the issue.

Seventeen weeks is considered an improvement!

My cousin was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease. She saw a cancer specialist the day her test came back positive and started treatment the next week. Thank god she’s here in the US!

You’re telling me that it would be an IMPROVEMENT to the nation’s health care to have my cousin and our family wait 17 weeks for her to get that test and see a cancer specialist?

McCain Says Obama Put Politics Above National Interest Over Iran Rally

Friday, September 19th, 2008

As I pointed out in the post below, Democrats put pressure on the Jewish organizations to disinvite Sarah Palin from the anti-Iran rally. It’s the one where Hillary got very upset that Sarah Palin was also invited. It looks like partisan politics won and the Jewish organizations caved.

On Thursday, the organizers withdrew the invitation to Palin, saying in a statement that in order to keep the focus on Iran, there would be no “American political personalities” at the rally.

“Governor Palin was pleased to accept an invitation to address this rally and show her resolve on this grave national security issue,” McCain said in a statement. “Regrettably that invitation has since been withdrawn under pressure from Democratic partisans.”

Is this another example of the “new politics” that Obama keeps talking about? Applying political pressure to an organization that invited people from both parties to attend? Stay classy, Democrats.

National Jewish Democratic Council Calls for Withdrawal of Palin Invitation to Iran Rally

Friday, September 19th, 2008

This is hilarious. I told you the other day about a rally in front of the UN against Iranian President against Ahmadinejad. A bunch of Jewish organizations has arranged the protest and invited Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin to attend. Both said yes. When Hillary found out pale and was also invited, Hillary said she would no longer attend. She was furious that Palin was turning the event into a partisan affair. Now the and NJDC is echoing Hillary.

Monday’s protest against Ahmadinejad is too important to be tainted by partisanship. Unfortunately, the campaign of Senator John McCain is much more interested in scoring political points than insuring there is bipartisan solidarity around the anti- Ahmadinejad efforts. Therefore, we call upon the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations to withdraw the invitation to Governor Sarah Palin and we applaud Senator Hillary Clinton’s decision to not attend the rally after the attendance of Palin was announced.

I admit that I’m not a brainiac.  But, isn’t the definition of partisanship or only one side agrees? If Palin, a Republican, and Hillary, a Democrat, both attend an event, doesn’t that make it bipartisan? How in the world is Sarah Palin making this a partisan event by accepting an invitation to attend it with a Democrat? Too funny.

Top Five Sexist Attacks on Palin…

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Posted by Tim…

There’s a savage narrative developing among the media’s elite that suggests Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin will be a bad mother if she becomes the nation’s first female vice president.

MSNBC, CNN and the Washington Post have each hinted Palin may neglect her five children, including one with Down’s Syndrome should the Republicans win the White House in November. Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden even spent a considerable amount of time opining about Palin’s looks while attempting to lay out the differences between himself and Palin.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Sarah Palin found some unlikely allies Wednesday as leading academics and even former top aides to Hillary Rodham Clinton endorsed the Republican charge that John McCain’s running mate has been subject to a sexist double standard by the news media and Democrats. (more…)

John McCain Has a Tax Plan To Create Jobs

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

John McCain’s tax policies are designed to create jobs, increase wages and allow all Americans — especially those in the hard-pressed middle class — to keep more of what they earn. His plan achieves these goals in three important ways.

17 and Pregnant

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Posted by Tim….

Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her husband Todd confirmed yesterday that their 17-year-old daughter Bristol is pregnant. In a statement issued by the McCain campaign, they said Bristol plans to have the baby and marry the father. Their daughter’s pregnancy, the Palins added, “would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned.”

Palin?!

Friday, August 29th, 2008

By Jonah Goldberg

As something of a Palin booster, I’m having some flop sweats at the idea it’s actually happening. You’ve heard all the usual pros and cons, here are a few added thoughts off the top of my head.

The way she talks. She has something of a native Alaskan’s accent/speaking style. When I heard her speak last month, I was stunned by how parochial she sounds, not substantively, but stylistically. She refers to herself not as a mom or mother but as a “mama.”
